Usability of a Mobile App for Improving Literacy in Children with Hearing Impairment: A Focus Group Study

Published in JMIR Human Factors, this study explored the usability of a mobile application designed to improve literacy in children with hearing impairments. The research involved focus groups with parents, teachers, and specialists to evaluate how the app supported language development and literacy skills. The results demonstrated strong usability and acceptance, paving the way for further development of digital tools in educational settings.
Hear Me Read: A Clinical Trial Protocol

The Hear Me Read study is a prospective clinical trial designed to assess a digital storybook intervention for young children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Published in PLoS One, this protocol outlines the trial’s methodology and goals, which include evaluating the impact of digital storybooks on literacy development. The trial is part of a growing body of evidence supporting the use of interactive digital tools to improve reading skills in children with hearing impairments.
Upcoming Presentation: ASHA Convention 2024
Our research will be showcased at the 2024 ASHA Convention, where we will present a session titled “A Prospective Clinical Trial Assessing a Digital Storybook Intervention for Deaf/Hard of Hearing Children.” This visionary session will highlight the latest findings from our ongoing research and its potential impact on the field of audiology and speech-language pathology.
